Free Cone Day

Today Bob and I met at the DLR station right next to his school and took the DLR one stop south, across the Thames. When we emerged from the station, Bob said, "Wow, look at the line at Ben & Jerry's!" and I said, "That's the reason we're here!" It was "free cone day" and the fact that one of the five London Ben & Jerry's shops participating in the promotion was so close to Bob's work was too good to pass up. I asked Bob to pose for this photo,
and he's smirking in it because he used the opportunity to have a taste of my ice cream while I was too far away to do anything about it! We wandered through the nearby University of Greenwich campus, enjoying our ice cream,
as we headed toward the
to have a glimpse at the current exhibit by Lawrence Weiner. A rather underwhelming exhibit, when we entered the exhibition space, the museum employee at the door said, "Try not to get too excited," and talked with us again as we were about to exit about how "it sure is hard not to get too excited in here, isn't it?" He definitely wasn't shy about sharing his opinion of the exhibit, and although we agreed with him, it was still odd, considering he worked at the museum! Our next stop was right next door at the Queen's House:
A museum employee told us the history of the building, explaining why it's called the Queen's House (in her words, the entire building came about because of a "right mighty row" between Anne of Denmark and James I), and we had a quick look at the art collection before heading toward Greenwich Park for a bit of a ramble. Compared to the last time we were there at the end of January, today was a lovely warm, sunny day for wandering through the beautiful park.

Bob really likes squirrels and always tries to call them over for a visit. Strangely, this squirrel seemed to speak Bob's language, and bolted up at Bob's call. Don't ask.
Although we've been in many London parks, we haven't often come across trees that have reminded us of home, but in Greenwich Park we found some that did just that.

From Greenwich, it was just a short walk over to Blackheath, where I liked the fact that this ice-cream truck perfectly matched the blossoming tree behind it,
Since we'd already had our (free) ice cream for the day, we didn't have any more, but ice-cream trucks are still a nice reminder that it's warm enough for their presence!
