Our Vancouver Visit: Shiro

I seem to have come down with a bit of a cold (the end result of a week's worth of bad hay fever in London, combined with dry plane air on the way here?) and so my Vancouver activities have been somewhat limited so far, but that didn't stop Bob and me from venturing out this afternoon for one of our favourite Vancouver treats: sushi! We went to one of our favourite sushi restaurants and could barely contain our smiles when we walked in, saw the menu (with its glorious Canadian $ prices), and ordered (we even had to explain to our server why we were ordering so much and were so obviously giddy about it). When our sushi arrived, it looked just as beautiful as we remembered

and the amazing quality of Vancouver sushi was confirmed in our first tastes: melt-in-your-mouth tuna, super-fresh everything, and perfectly flavoured and textured sushi rice (what we've had in London so far has been distinctly undervinegared and dry). Add to this the fact that this particular place uses fresh wasabi (not powdered), preserves their own ginger, serves excellent green tea, and throws in some Pocky when you pay your bill, and Shiro is sheer sushi-heaven.
