The Tube

Even before today, public transportation has seemed more crowded than usual since we got back from our trip (everyone's back from summer holidays?), but today at 7:00 P.M. saw the beginning of a tube strike that closed nine of London's twelve tube lines.
Even before 7:00 P.M., tube stations were closing in anticipation of the strike and buses were bursting with people trying to avoid the unknown; today's bus journeys tested our London-trained patience with slower than slow traffic. By the time we reached our stop, I had almost been lulled into the type of deep, numb sleep of fairy tales which would require a hundred years of vines growing over me before I could awaken. Okay, not quite, but boy was I happy to get off that bus!
